How is Your Team's Heart Health?
How would a member of your team answer this question?
“How am I doing at sowing into the hearts and lives of the people on the team?”
I hate to admit it, but in my early days of worship leading, I rarely took the time to invest in the hearts of the people on my team. In my immaturity and zeal, I was so fixated on the Godward focus of worship that I ended up big time forsaking the loving others aspect of worship. That may sound crazy, but neglecting community is a very real possibility if you lack a clear understanding of the value of community and how to develop it on your team.
God Wants Community for Your Team
Over time, I slowly began to see that though well-intentioned, my leadership was not all that the Lord wanted for my team. Community isn’t just a nice idea; it’s God’s design.
"Community isn’t just a nice idea; it’s God’s design."
Not only will you accomplish more as a group than as an individual, you’ll also bear greater fruit when you pool your gifts and talents and learn to use them together in unity. Your ministry will be more effective and far-reaching because your combined talents will result in greater blessing, encouragement, and effectiveness.
True Community Brings out the Best in People
The people on your team want to feel known, cared about, and included. Feeling valued will cause them to value the relationships they have and motivate them to reach for excellence because they genuinely care about the team.
"True and healthy community will bring out the best in people on your team."
People actually want to see their team members as friends and not just co-workers. I may give some effort for a boss or a co-worker, but I will give exponentially more effort for a friend who I know cares about me even outside of the context of the team. People go the extra mile for those they care about.
"People will go the extra mile for those they care about."
When your team members begin to feel this camaraderie, they will naturally build each other up and encourage one another. They won't want to tolerate anything that is unhealthy or threatens the cohesiveness of the team because it is an entity they are invested in and proud to belong to.
How is the heart health of your team? I’d love to hear from you!
