Are You Stewarding Your Worship Leading

We all have multiple areas in our lives that we're called to steward. No one is immune to the responsibilities God has put before them. I find that during different seasons of life, the Lord will highlight different areas in which He wants me to grow.

Several years ago, the Lord began to speak to me specifically about stewardship related to my worship leading. I started asking the questions, “How am I leading others? What am I doing with the talent He has given me?” I also took the time to analyze the condition of my own heart in leading worship. “Am I being a faithful steward of my heart?” A big question for me was, “Do I still expect God to move in our times of worship?”

As worship leaders, it's easy to lose that expectancy. Every time I get up on that stage to lead worship, I want to expect an encounter with the Holy Spirit. I want to expect the Lord to show up in the room while I'm leading. I am determined to cultivate and steward that kind of hunger as a worship leader. Asking those questions brought me into a time of serious reflection and personal challenge. I became intentional about the way I was stewarding the things He had given me. Since then, rightfully stewarding what the Lord has given me as a worship leader is a high priority.

Let's be clear – stewardship is a journey. It is not something that you master and move on to something else. There is always room for growth. We all have areas that need improvement; the important thing is to make a commitment to follow God as He highlights specific areas in which He wants us to pursue growth in different seasons. One of the best ways I have found to steward my life well is through asking questions. Not just self-analyzing or introspective questions, but prayerful dialogue with the Lord. For example, asking the Lord, “Am I faithfully stewarding the gifts, talents, and abilities You have given me as a worship leader?” or “Lord, show me areas that I need to steward better.”
